It’s hard to argue that, for social networks, live streaming isn’t a big deal these days, and Twitter is getting back in the fun.
The new live streaming feature, which is baked right into Twitter, is “powered by Periscope,” but Twitter says users don’t have to have the Periscope app to access the new feature. The company is expanding upon the Periscope button it previously rolled out for a few users earlier this year, now letting all Twitter users access the live streaming feature.
It’s a bit more detailed and built-into Twitter in this new iteration as well. New broadcasts will appear directly in follower’s timelines, and there will be an option for followers to join the stream, which will give them the ability to send hearts and comments.
For users that want to start live streaming, they’ll need to compose a new tweet, select the camera icon, and then select the Periscope “Live” button. The live video will begin after that.
